Maratua - Derawan (part 2)

Back again,, sorry for taking long time for the second post.

So I'm kinda disappointed with the homestay in Maratua. Well, I know that mostly the island only got the electricity at night. But at least from my previous stay in Homestay, it never blackout or lack of electricity at night. But here, it's different. First of all, everything's going well, eventhough the water was briny but seems like there's no problem with the electricity. But when we're going to sleep, suddenly it blackout and the fan was stopped so the room become really hot. And it continued until morning.

In the next morning we're going to the dock to catch the sunrise. And the morning view made my feeling better..

With the bonus, turtle.Yup in Maratua we could find green turtle easily, especially in the evening and morning. We dont have to dive to found them, they swim and roam freely. It's a proof that the beaches and sea were still clean and not too polluted. A good job from the local people.

After breakfast, we have to repack because we moved to Derawan Island, and also changed clothes to get ready for Snorkeling in Kakaban Lake (yeaay). In the middle of the trip, we drop by to Maratua Paradise Resort. The cheapest room here was IDR800k and it's only for Cabin beach. They have a their own dock for snorkeling where we also can saw Turtle easily here.

The good thing when you joined open trip was you could made a new friend, like this time when suddenly we met one of our friend that also joined Krakatau Trip previously. (Taken before random accident happened because my clumsiness.Sorryyyy..)

It took around 45minutes to 1 hour from Maratua Paradise to Kakaban Island. In the local dialect Kakaban means "hug" as the island hugs the lake from the surrounding seawater. Here, we need to walk from dock to the lake that located in the middle of the island. It is a mangrove-fringed lake, slightly above sea level, where thousands of jellyfish which are harmless to humans live.

Based on Wiki, this lake has four different species jellyfish consist of which do not have the ability to harm humans with their stinging cells. These jellyfishs are identical with it are found in seawater, cannot sting human, but still have poison and can sting its prey. Well, I only found two of them thou..

Since I'm not that good with swimming, I was curious whether will need to use lifevest or not. But apparently, in the end I need it because some of the part of these lake was quite deep. The lake is at most 17 metres (56 ft) deep with poor visibility and green brackish water. Here, the guide reminded us not to use fin since it could damage the jellyfish. So remember not to use your fin when you're swimming in Kakaban Lake, since jellyfish was quite,,Jelly (lol, I mean fragile).

From Kakaban, we moved to Sangalaki Island for lunch at the beach. When we arrived in Sangalaki, the water was receding so our boat could anchor near the beach and we have to walk.

Sangalaki Island was famous as the turtle island because this's where the turtle turtles lay their eggs so finally they build turtle conservation here. There's also a restaurant here, and I totally not recommended you to use the toilet. I had to push my urge to vomit=____="

But anyway, when we came, they have some baby turtles (called tukik) that we can touch.

When we going back to the boat, the water receed much more lower than when we arrived. We have to walk farther and in the end only girls who could climbing up the boat, while the boys should wait until the boat was out of the island beach and should swimm, nope, precisely they have to drift up to the boat. Because suddenly slightly outside the island, the sea current is very strong.

The next schedule after Sangalaki Island was Manta Point where we can swim with Manta. But unfortunately the waves and current was so strong so it got canceled and we finally went to Gusung Island.
I cant say exactly that this's an island thou. Gusung Island was a sand dunes in the middle of the sea. I'm not really explore this, since I decided to go for snorkeling since I missed it so bad.(photos here're taken from Sean's mostly).

And finally we arrived in Derawan Island. In here, we stayed at small cottage that directly above the sea. The cottage was really nice, it has air conditioner, full day electricity and freshwater. Too bad we just stay for a night here. Hahaha

Pretty sunset that we got in here..

And also stargazing to close our day..
(Really love Sean's night photos here *since I cant take any)

In the last day, we prepared to going back to Tarakan. Since I didnt joined when the departure, I have no idea how the sea journey will be.
And apparently it's bad.
Really bad.
No wonder my friends who already went there said that they clothes all got wet and most of them got seasick. The waves really high, and even our boat need additional fuel because of the bad waves. And most of us get wet. It took almost 4 hours from Derawan to Tarakan with a really roller coaster sea trip.

After arrived at Tarakan harbour, we went for late lunch. I see(a)food..

Because we arrived earlier than schedule, we still have time to randoming around in Tarakan. So we decided to extend the rent car and went to Tarakan Mangrove. And doing random photos here.

Tarakan airport was really near the city, so it took less than 30minutes to go there. And finally the trip ended.
I'd like to go back to these places, but I prefer went from and back to Berau. And without missed the plane for sure. Hahahaha
But this's a memorable trip. Really.. A lot:)

Fin.
End.
Ja Ne.
